[ Glitch had the camera up and he's looking at his fluid trying to send a message to a certain someone. ]
Okay. How do I even fucking start?
Uh.
Heeeeeey, Hunk.
No, that's stupid.
Sooo, Hunk. You're cool. I'm cool. Why don't we-
No, that's really fucking dumb. [ He lets out an aggravated sigh, scrubbing at his face. ]
How did fucking Varian ask Ruby out on a date? Maybe I should just get into that mindset.
'Hey. I'm a science guy. Let me just mix these potions together and lets get the dating on.'
[ He scoffs at it and he continues to babble away. ]
No. That's even worse if I'm taking that route. Why am I even taking Martin's advice...fuuuuck.
Just forget it. Just ask him straight out. 'Hey Hunk, when the month from hell is over do you want to hang out like date like? I think you're cool and want to get to know you.'
[Hmmm. Okay. He didn't want messages on this thing. But if he DID. They should be for something important. And this doesn't seem important. Actually... it seems kinda awkward and confused.]
Hey, Lev. [Nico looks weirdly well-rested, and he has finally ditched the bloody horror show aesthetic he'd adopted for a couple weeks there, looking clean if exceptionally rumpled. He's in his kitchen, which even at the cursory glance provided by fluid video has clearly been (shock, horror) scrubbed down top to bottom. It sorta had to be, after everything that happened in October. Lev 1, Nico 0.] Have you been to any of those sinkholes?
[Lev, on the other hand, looks like he just woke up from a five day nap. Which he did, basically. His hair is messy and he has to fight back a yawn before replying.]
[Nico slept for two days, then woke up and made skeletons clean his house and slept for two more days, then meditated where the girl on the Fluid had gone to get some of her powers back because of course he did, and slept for two more days after that. He is getting extremely bored of sleeping, now.]
What? [Of course Lev would notice that!!! Nico stubbornly doesn't comment.] The sinkholes. There's three of them in town now, and they're huge. There's stuff in them, too.
[Okay, clearly a kid who doesn't even know what pizza is doesn't know about texting. Duh. Mike almost switches to video, but... he doesn't want Lev to feel embarrassed.]
cool i got a bunch of different ones so you can try them all cheese, pepperoni, veggie, and sausage
[A day or two after this conversation, a package shows up outside Lev's door. It's a plain cardboard box with Lev's name on it, but no other identifying information.
[ Lev will find a package by his front door addressed to him. Inside is this abomination with absolutely no explanation other than a note wishing him a "merry xmas" from Breeze. ]
[Lev jerks awake from a dead sleep, sputtering a little bit. He'd come down with a cold a few days ago and apparently... cold medicine makes you sleep like the dead.
[Nico sits on the edge of the bed, still holding onto Lev's shoulder. He's probably not very visible in the dark, but it's hard to miss his relieved slump, considering his hip is now pressed against Lev's side.] You're alive. [Bad dreams. At least this time they were just dreams, unlike last time where Clarisse really was dead. With Lev, he didn't want to risk it: he wanted to make sure.
But now that he's here, it feels a little silly. He awkwardly presses a tissue box into whichever of Lev's hands is closest. He's been bringing another one every time he comes over.] I mean, I got your box. [He almost cried?? He feels very weird about almost crying but... very good also. And even a little guilty because he didn't even think to get something for Lev. Oops. Sincerely (if a touch shyly):] Thank you.
abby now completely understands how her father found out about her and owen so quickly back when she was a teenager. she also understands now that he was kinda full of it to tell her that he just knew because he was her dad; nico and lev are so painfully obvious that it's really hard not to give it away that she knows. they really do try not to look at each other when she's in the room. as if making eye contact is wrong, or something.
it's sweet, though. she entertains asking lev about it for a while but what pushes her there is the evening she walks into the living room and they immediately move apart from each other on the couch even though they'd only been sitting there. it's then that she gets a little worried that lev doesn't know that it's okay to tell her about it. he's probably just being secretive though, right?
either way, she's knocking gently on his door with her knuckles, waiting for a reply before she pushes it open and pokes her head around.)
[Lev is sprawled on the bed on his stomach, pencil in his hands, idly tapping against the sketchbook perched on his pillow. He's trying to occupy himself since Nico left.
It's hard.
Nico's always on his mind. Ever since the day they met. Now that they're boyfriends, it's pretty much a constant. He's glad that Nico is spending time with Thanatos (guy seems like he's really goin' through it) but it's hard to be without him.
He glances up at Abby. There's pencil smears on his hand.]
(this one takes a long time to send. abby doesn't have a problem thinking about what she wants to say to lev, but second guessing herself on whether or not it's the right time to say it is slightly torturous.
eventually, one warm morning, she realises that she's both tired of sitting in complete silence at their kitchen table, and fucking stupid, so she goes upstairs to get her fluid and punches send on the goddamn message already. and then she throws the fluid across the room onto her bed and leaves it up there so she can avoid any potential reply while she heads out for a run. later. she'll– deal with it later. she needs to do something with this wild, nervous energy first.)
Hey kid. If you're ready to, could we talk? Want to apologise. Properly. I miss you. Hope you're okay.
[There's a lot of blood, he thinks, as he ducks behind a wall that used to be a building to rest. Or that's what Lev tries to do, instead he collapses, the bricks pressing into his back as his body slumps against the structure remains for support and all he can do is glance down at his own body.
His shirt is wet with blood, the dark fabric concealing how much there really his, but it's smeared across his arms and he can feel it starting to soak through his jeans. He's struggling to catch his breath, or maybe he's crying, or some combination of both that only comes out in wheezy, sharp gasps.
Not all the blood is his, Lev tells himself, trying to ignore the fact that most of it is. He'd reached for a Waste he'd seen around his house, stumbling and in agony, and she'd violently grabbed him, throwing him out of the way of one of the mist creature's path. Then the Waste collapsed before him, mask sliding off, and suddenly he was staring into the face of his older sister.
But not as he'd remembered her. She was older. Even older than Abby. Her hair was cut into a short bob and for a moment, he could only stare as though seeing her without her braids was like not seeing her as Yara at all. But it was. Lev knew by how she looked at him, like he was someone to be adored, how she touched his cheek in a way that was firm yet gentle, how she spoke to him in a voice forged only by knowing someone since birth. It was Yara and he couldn't leave her. Not again.
She told him she was dying with the dream. He told her he didn't care and this time he would save her. It didn't matter if she'd been trapped here or if the world was collapsing and she looked at him, like how she did when he used to tell her he was going to be warrior like her. Supportive, proud, but like she knew something he didn't. When he pulled her to her feet, she smiled at him, wiped the blood from her face, and then whistled loudly. A shadow shifted in the mist, moving towards them. She pushed him away, a soundless command-"run".
Lev ran, but with each stride, the guilt weighed heavy. He'd left her to die once before. Let her body be riddled with bullets like she wasn't even human. And he'd just... run away. Lev turned and looked back, nothing but a brief impulse, but it was a fatal error.
Something tore into his side. The pain was blinding, it nearly knocked him off his feet. Blood started to pour down his side; it felt hot, like it could burn his skin as it flowed. Only years of habit allowed him to still notch his bow and fire at the offending creature. His vision was blurred but he heard the sound of an arrowhead impacting flesh. Was it dead? He didn't know. It didn't matter. He had get the fuck out of there either way.
He'd only managed to make it a few meters to where he was now, against the wall of a building that he probably used to go to. Now here he was, a shell of himself too.
Fuck. He should call for help, for Abby, for Nico. For someone. He tries to reach for his fluid but his arms are too heavy, like the blood caking them weighs hundreds of pounds. His vision swims.
He's so tired. And he fucked up. If he calls them, he'll have to admit to that. He isn't supposed get caught. He isn't supposed to make mistakes like this. Abby's gonna make fun of him. Nico will be mad.
Lev exhales and leans against the wall. He's so tired. Maybe he just needs to rest a little bit. Then he'll go home. Or maybe not. He tries one last time to reach for his Fluid. His hand doesn't even make it an inch before it goes limp.]
(one could absolutely call this abrupt; abby's tone has the air of somebody who can't quite hold what she's saying in anymore,) Has Clarisse said anything mean, about me. To you.
(or otherwise.
maybe he's overheard her saying something to bella, it's entirely possible.)
